RL Winston

OVER THE YEARS, Winston has used many different materials to build our fly blanks, including bamboo, fiberglass, various types of graphite and now, our second generation boron/graphite composite.

And while a primary goal of the company has been to constantly improve upon and evolve the fly rod itself, one thing has never changed: our dedication to making not just the best performing fly fishing rods in the world, but the most beautiful.

RL Winston Categories

Boron IIx

Boron IIx Rods Have Redefined the Fast-Action Category.

Boron is five times as strong and twice as stiff as steel, yet lighter than aluminum; it lets us add 25% more strength to graphite while significantly reducing weight. Our Boron IIx rods take full advantage of this material's amazing properties and have redefined the fast-action category. They are responsive, powerful, highly accurate fly rods with a very wide casting range. Whether it's gentle presentations up close or long casts of 100 feet, a Boron IIx can do it all. Incredibly light, these rods are a pleasure to cast all day, even the 10 and 12 weights. Cast one today. You will be amazed.

Boron II-MX

MX stands for maximum, as in maximum power, distance and fish fighting capabilities.

Winston's new fresh and saltwater Boron II-MX series. The MX stands for maximum, as in maximum power, distance and fish fighting capabilities. The 4, 5 and 6-weights are slightly stiffer and faster than their Boron IIx counterparts; the 7 through 12-weights are true “cannons” that can handle sinking lines, big flies and adverse wind conditions. While all eleven models feature faster actions and are capable of making long distance, 100+ foot casts, they will amaze you with their responsiveness and light weight. Whether you’re chucking 6'' long “grocery” flies or battling fly rod humbling winds, a Boron II-MX will get the job done.

Boron IIt

Innovation meets tradition.

Our Boron IIt series proved that advanced boron technology could be used to create exceptional medium-action fly rods. With this series, we moved our proven, second-generation boron in a whole new direction, with extraordinarily lightweight rods that combine the powerful, highly responsive characteristics of Boron II with the legendary smoothness and delicacy of our more traditional-action rods. At Winston, we fully recognize that many people enjoy fishing for trout with medium-action rods. Our Boron IIt series is a true breakthrough for such anglers.

LT 5-Piece

Sets the standard for multiple section fly rod blanks

OUR SMOOTH-CASTING, 5-PIECE LT SERIES fish wonderfully and travel exceptionally well. This series sets the standard for multiple section fly rod blanks. They have soft tips, actions that are slightly faster and crisper than our WT series and, of course, the distinctive feel found only in a Winston. The 5-section design features our internal spigot ferrule system, which ensures that the taper and internal diameter of one section of the rod exactly matches that of the adjoining section. The performance of these rods is unmatched in the category; an LT 5-piece is a great choice, whether you’re hiking into a backcountry lake, going to New Zealand for a few weeks or just heading out on your home waters.

WT Trout

Proven on trout waters worldwide.

THE VAST MAJORITY OF TROUT FISHING SITUATIONS involve casts of less than 60 feet, usually far shorter. And when you’re working a fish closer in, success often depends on your ability to make gentle, delicate, accurate presentations. For this reason, many experienced anglers consider our WT rod blanks to be the perfect choice for such fishing. With progressive tapers, they work nicely at close distances yet can make longer casts when needed. Proven on trout waters worldwide, these medium action graphite blanks are incredibly smooth, offer wonderful touch and feel, and the tips are soft enough to protect 6x and 7x tippets while playing large trout.
