A NEW APPROACH TO CARBON FIBER ROD BUILDING
For years, American Tackle has been at the forefront of incorporating a variety of woven carbon fiber materials into its rod blanks and components, notable examples including the Bushido, Matrix and Atrex Series rod blanks, to the G2 line of handles, grips and reel seats (culminating in the ICAST 2020 award-winning Tsuka Handle System). With the rod component industry following suit shortly after, American Tackle was tasked with a new challenge: how can we further innovate, to push the needle forward on quality and design to give rod builders and anglers the best possible product?
Enter: Forged Carbon Fiber.
Also referred to as forged composite or FRC, forged carbon fiber has a different manufacturing process that results in a great strength/weight ratio, high durability, as well as a very unique aesthetic quality. These qualities have made forged carbon fiber an increasingly popular material seen in a variety of other industries: automotive parts, electronics, sporting goods, aerospace, among many others, and American Tackle took the plunge in incorporating it into a 1-piece handle system for both casting and spinning rod builds. And with the result netting both Best of Category and Best of Show at ICAST 2023, we think the decision was absolutely worth it.
